Overview

An exciting opportunity has risen for a Band 5 Registered Mental Health/Learning Disability Nurse to join the Lustrum Vale inpatient rehabilitation ward. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who can work with the wider MDT, voluntary sector and third sector organisations. Wellbeing of colleagues and collaborative working is essential to keeping staff happy at work. The team aims to work with patients, carers and others to achieve a level of recovery as deemed by the individual. This post is only open to candidates who already have NMC registration and have completed the preceptorship programme. Newly qualified applicants or those due to qualify will be recruited via a separate process.

Main duties

This rewarding post offers opportunities for continued professional development and training in a specialised field of Mental Health/LD nursing. You will work with a wide multidisciplinary team to deliver a high quality of care and intervention. You will be the named nurse for patients, following their agreed goals and delivering the care plans. You will network with carers/families to discuss and provide support and explore further resources as needed. You will attend multi-disciplinary meetings to support a patient\'s admission on the ward and work in partnership with allied health professionals to deliver care. Although this is an autonomous role, you will receive full supervision, team training and an appraisal to support professional development.

Qualifications

  • Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD
  • To be recognised practice assessor / mentor or work towards in an agreed timescale
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Experience

  • Working with people with mental ill health / learning disabilities
  • Working in a person-centred therapeutic organisation
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working in partnership with other agencies

Knowledge

  • Evidence-based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act)
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management in practice
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice
  • Confident working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections
