Job Title: Registered Building Inspector Class 2 A to F
Purpose of the Job
The post holder is to actively oversee and assure compliance with the requirements for the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, and associated statutory building safety management systems required to deliver the building control service.
Principal Accountabilities
- Support the Building Control Inspector Manager in processing building control applications, ensuring adherence to procedures, timely decisions within 8 weeks, clear communication with customers and the team, and escalation when necessary.
- Organise and manage processing of building control and related applications, enforcement investigations, and corporate enquiries according to statutory and departmental policies.
- Review data systems related to the building safety programme to identify improvements, recommend system enhancements, and embed new IT solutions.
- Contribute to quality assurance to ensure accurate data and compliance information is available for properties under 20 stories, reporting directly to the Building Control Inspector Group Manager.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Building Control ISO9001 system, including policy and procedure development, user feedback, and change management.
- Engage with subject matter experts and specialists to document and improve Building Control ISO9001 procedures and processes.
- Support collaboration with Customer Services, FOI, Corporate Complaints, Communications, and other departments to ensure effective recording of complaints and requests, delivering a customer-focused service.
- Assist in delivering an efficient dangerous structures service and liaise with relevant teams to meet obligations.
- Represent the council with external stakeholders such as LFB, Building Safety Regulator, MHCLG, and others, providing technical advice and guidance.
Knowledge and Educational Qualifications
- Specialist knowledge of building control processes and statutory service delivery.
- Building Control Level 1 qualification.
- Proficiency in software packages including MS Word, Excel, Building Control Applications databases, PowerPoint, and SAP.
- Understanding of local government service provision and political awareness.
- Knowledge of project management principles gained through experience.
- Awareness of financial and service constraints in local government.
Experience
- Experience in handling building control applications for buildings under 20 storeys in a customer-oriented environment.
- Experience working within a building control team in a city context.
- Registered Building Inspector qualification.
