Have you ever wondered how we keep the electricity flowing and the lights on for all electricity consumers in Great Britain? If so, joining our 18-month Graduate Development Programme gives you the opportunity to develop your skills in a key role in this by joining the National Energy System Operator (NESO) as a Graduate Power System Engineer and be part of the core team that is working to operate a carbon free electricity system by 2035.

Our Graduate Programme

As a Graduate Power System Engineer, you will be contributing to developing the future energy system. Depending on the requirements of the team you are working alongside, opportunities may include creating, developing and informing our understanding of future challenges, looking at potential solutions in technical, economic and market fronts.

This role is based at Wokingham hybrid working options may be available and dependent upon business requirement

Key tasks and areas of work could include:
  • assessing network faults
  • developing system operational plan
  • working with GB transmission owners to ensure our network simulation models are maintained to provide accurate and technical analysis necessary to electricity network design
  • managing the technical aspects of electricity frameworks (both GB and Europe)
About you

You will demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of energy system operation and have skills and experience in using programming languages and operational research techniques that will allow a step change in the type and level of analysis we complete. A good level of ability in producing written reports and presentations, as well as analysis and design would be beneficial.

You will have a minimum 2.2 degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Maths.

Ideally, you will also have a valid full UK Driving Licence.
