Job Introduction

We are looking for a Chef De Partie to join us at King's College, Taunton, working for the global catering provider Sodexo. This team is skilled, innovative, and loves the challenge of an exciting and varied working week. The food we offer our students is the best in the region and beyond, and we need a forward-thinking chef to join our team. We offer straight shifts, working within a two-week shift cycle. Our shifts are 06:15-14:15 and 11:45-19:45, with occasional alterations for functions. We do not work unsociable hours, and your holiday allowance includes Bank Holidays. Christmas has an extended period of 'gifted' holiday.

What you do
  • Be inspired by and help inspire the kitchen team.
  • Help control the complete catering operation.
  • Assist in managing and optimising food costs and reducing food waste.
  • Assist in ensuring uniformity in food and service standards provided to staff, visitors, and students.
  • Help ensure the highest standards of food hygiene are maintained.
What you bring
  • Expertise in cooking on a large scale, serving between 200-500 students.
  • Experience following recipes, possibly in a similar setting.
  • Experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
  • Awareness of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Professional attitude and a positive outlook.
  • Basic food handling skills certification:
    • NVQ Level 2 - desirable
    • Level 2 Food Safety Certificate - desirable
    • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on cooking experience.
