Job summary

Avon and Somerset Police in the South West region seeks an experienced leader to manage the delivery of Technical Surveillance across locations. This role focuses on covert policing operations, safeguarding operational security and ensuring compliance with legal standards.

You will shape strategic direction, lead and develop teams, manage budgets and resources, and provide expert advice on all surveillance aspects.

Qualifications

• Qualification or relevant experience in electronics, imaging, electrical installation, radio communications, IT, or surveillance.
• Proven management skills in a technical environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and strategic communication skills.
• Understanding of RIPA, Police Act, ACPO Surveillance Manual, and ECHR.
• Experience managing a large budget and procurement decisions.
• Ability to deliver guidance to diverse audiences in high-risk contexts.
• Experience with covert techniques, tactics, and strategies.
• Ability to develop policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of judicial procedures for evidence handling.
• Experience in investigation practices and management.
• Ability to prepare operational orders for sensitive operations.

Responsibilities

• Manage delivery of Technical Surveillance to the South West Region.
• Lead covert policing operations while safeguarding operational security.
• Shape strategic direction, develop teams, manage resources and budgets.
• Provide expert advice on surveillance; authorize operational plans.
• Ensure governance, risk management and QA processes.
• Engage with senior police leaders, partner agencies and suppliers.
• Support regional operations and deliver specialist projects.
• Ensure records, service standards and inspections meet requirements.
