Purpose

As Regional Planning Lead, you will be responsible for planning selected projects as well as overseeing and coordinating all Planning activities within the SP Manweb (SPM) region. You will ensure that Projects and Programmes are scheduled effectively, resources are optimised and delivery aligns with organisational objectives and regulatory requirements. Acting as the key point of contact for Planning governance, performance reporting and continuous improvement initiatives within SPM, you will be required to implement, manage and drive continual improvement of the SPM 132kV Projects Planning and Scheduling process, focusing on Business and Local priorities to provide industry best practice Project Controls such as Planning, Scheduling and Schedule Risk Management. With Line Management responsibility for a team of Planners and taking direction on priorities from the Programme Manager whilst supporting team initiatives, you will initialise the Planning and Scheduling experience to drive forward improvement of Planning and Scheduling, including Schedule Risk Management standards, systems and tools. Focusing team and individual continuous improvement and development activities, you will ensure alignment with wider business and local drivers such as the RIIO Business Plan, Clean Power 2030 and SPM Digital Strategy.


Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the management of a team of Planners, ensuring they are equipped to accurately report project progress using relevant forecasting techniques. You will also be responsible for the delivery of all reporting metrics required for tracking progress of the SPM 132kV business plan that are gathered via project programmes, including volumes, assets and resource modelling. Working closely with Project Unit Managers and their teams, you will manage milestone and baseline variance and performance, while attending project meetings to ensure familiarity with project scope, delivery and reporting requirements across the region, including site visits and Contractor meetings. A key aspect of the role will involve promoting stakeholder engagement, collaborating with PMO, Design, Project, Construction, Quality, Environmental, System Design and Control Room teams to ensure programmes and schedules are being managed and updated properly, following the correct processes and driving continuous improvement. You will oversee the delivery of quality, documented planning processes and work towards the development of resource loaded programmes by engaging with relevant stakeholders and implementing effective processes. In addition, you will drive continual improvement by completing project and planning reviews to identify lessons learned, introducing changes that support best project management practice and behaviour across the wider project portfolio.


What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role, you will have an Engineering/Planning degree or equivalent experience, together with experience of programming Electrical infrastructure projects. You will possess Project Management methodology experience or qualifications and have a strong background in stakeholder management, communication and reporting. Extensive P6/MSPe experience is essential, alongside an understanding of and the ability to implement Quality Assurance processes. You will have experience in project risk management and control, as well as an understanding of procurement processes and procedures. An awareness of contracts, particularly NEC, D&C and FIDIC is also required. You will also demonstrate awareness of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation applicable to Construction projects, particularly CDM, and possess effective team management skills.
