Job summary

Life Services Group is seeking a Maintenance Operative to join our Property team, supporting the South West region with regional travel. The role covers repairs and upkeep across funeral homes, care centres and crematoria to keep sites safe and presentable.

You’ll be involved in plumbing, decorating, joinery, grounds work and general repairs, liaising with contractors and travelling between sites. This is a full-time, permanent position offering £30,000 per year with development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience across a range of trades, such as plumbing, basic electrical work, decorating and general repairs.
• Can work independently, using their initiative to identify issues and find practical solutions.
• Is organised and able to prioritise their workload across multiple sites and competing demands.
• Has a strong understanding of health and safety and works safely at all times.
• Enjoys problem-solving and can diagnose property issues and carry out effective repairs
• Has a flexible approach and is comfortable responding to changing priorities and emergency maintenance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out day‑to‑day repairs and maintenance across Dignity properties within your assigned region.
• Identifying property issues and completing repairs in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
• Undertaking a variety of maintenance tasks including plumbing, joinery, carpentry, painting, decorating and basic groundworks.
• Responding to emergency maintenance issues and implementing temporary or permanent solutions.
• Completing routine property inspections and ensuring maintenance records are kept up to date.
• Maintaining tools, equipment and materials to a safe and professional standard.
• Sourcing materials and arranging works in the most efficient and cost‑effective way.
• Liaising with and overseeing external contractors where required.
• Supporting the upkeep of funeral homes, crematoria and other company properties to a high standard.
• Travelling between sites across the region and managing your own workload effectively.
