Overview
Regional Health & Safety Manager (North West, Manchester & Cumbria) role supporting our field-based retail team. Travel across Retail stores in Manchester up to Carlisle, across to Southport and surrounding areas. The role focuses on upholding safety and legality, supporting our Supermarkets, and acting as a subject matter expert in Health & Safety with knowledge of Food Safety and Trading Standards. You will have overall responsibility for Safe & Legal practices, aiming to protect customers and colleagues and ensure brand legality.
Responsibilities
- Provide a Safe & Legal management service for Retail supermarkets; occasional support for Logistics may be required.
- Attend regional and store meetings, engage with senior teams, share data trends, and work with teams to agree suitable solutions.
- Manage/coordinate activity where serious safety or legality concerns are identified; work with stores and sites to demonstrably improve standards.
- Work with stakeholders to manage Enforcement activity, arrange for necessary support, disseminate information, and liaise with Enforcement Officers to reach satisfactory conclusions.
- Provide a reactive service for serious food safety, trading standards, and health & safety issues and incidents.
- Oversee fire safety standards throughout the region, including undertaking fire and temp FRA risk assessments (training will be provided).
- Support central teams by providing timely information and advice.
- Coach Regional Managers, Store/Site Managers and colleagues in the required safe and legal standards and general good practice using a partnership approach.
- Build strong relationships with retail management teams to be recognised as the main point of contact for technical queries.
- Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Pest Controller) to promote safety and legality.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH diploma / Member of a relevant professional organisation and undergoing CPD.
- Post-graduate experience.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety, Food Safety & Trading Standards legislation.
- Auditing experience in Health & Safety.
- Understanding of HACCP.
- In-depth knowledge of catering, retail or manufacturing in Health & Safety, including Food Safety & Trading Standards.
- Appreciation of microbiological safety and quality aspects of high-risk products.
- Good understanding of health & safety, food safety, trading standards quality/management systems.
- Knowledge of Retail end-to-end operations.
- Customer-focused with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Great communicator with reporting and data manipulation skills.
