Your role

The position reports to the Regional Operations Lead and drives the Energy Efficiency standards, policies, and governance for the Digital Realty Operational Teams. The Regional Energy Efficiency Manager works with sub-regional operations teams, suppliers, and sub-contractors to implement energy efficiency and sustainable practices. Internal contacts include Global and Regional Operations teams and DE&C. The Regional Energy Efficiency Manager plays a crucial role in developing and executing strategies to reduce environmental impact, enhance energy performance, and drive sustainability initiatives.

The Regional Energy Efficiency Manager ensures that design and build-out projects in EMEA, along with related activities, are fully aligned with DE&C activities.

What you'll do

  • Regional Technical Expert: Responsible for maintaining and developing corporate standards, procedures, and work processes related to mechanical equipment in collaboration with DE&C functional leads. Ensures DC standards are followed across EMEA, using consistent equipment and suppliers for uniformity. Supports lower building costs and incorporates the latest technology within mechanical expertise. Builds close cooperation with Procurement to assess costs, lead times, and quality. Provides technical management of external/internal engineering consultants. Validates Capex budgets for data center expansions, retrofits, and new builds upon request. Monitors energy consumption trends, identifies cost-saving opportunities, and implements measures to improve operational efficiency and reduce energy waste. Stays updated on emerging energy-efficient technologies, evaluates and integrates innovative solutions.
  • Technical Expertise & Governance: Advises local organizations, reviews and approves build-out, refurbishment, and maintenance activities, and evaluates business cases involving procurement and supplier agreements. Provides technical reviews during design, build, and commissioning phases. Manages external/internal engineering consultants. Leads research on new technologies and processes. Analyzes current situations and potential impacts before changes in data centers, providing detailed guidelines for implementation. Reviews lessons learned and updates stakeholders accordingly. Conducts availability and reliability studies to identify vulnerabilities. Investigates technical incidents, reports findings, and disseminates experiences.
  • Energy Management & Sustainability: Identifies and implements energy-saving initiatives, conducts energy audits, and collaborates with teams to adopt energy-efficient technologies. Develops strategies to reduce energy consumption and increase efficiency, evaluates renewable energy options, and assesses onsite renewable projects. Formulates and implements sustainability initiatives aligned with global goals, establishes KPIs, and tracks progress. Integrates sustainability principles into operations, explores renewable energy feasibility, and stays informed on industry trends.
  • Regulatory & Data Analysis: Ensures compliance with environmental regulations, obtains necessary permits, and reports on energy and sustainability metrics. Engages stakeholders to promote awareness and collaborates with supply chain partners to enhance sustainability practices. Develops staff training programs on energy conservation and sustainability.

What you'll need

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering; proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • 10+ years experience in mechanical engineering, with over 5 years in engineering and construction projects.
  • Basic understanding of building management systems, civil structures, and architectures is desirable.
  • Proven track record in designing, building, and commissioning data centers.
  • High motivation, adaptability, and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or related fields. A master’s degree is a plus. Proven experience in energy management and sustainability, with knowledge of relevant regulations and standards. Strong data analysis, reporting, project management skills, and willingness to travel.
