Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Regional Director, SME Business Banking.

The Regional Director will act as an ambassador of the Bank to the external local market, cultivating collaborative relationships with external stakeholders including political, business, and community entities. They will be responsible for managing, leading, and developing an SME Business Banking coverage team for the local SME business market. The role includes full credit and operational risk oversight and supports the formulation and implementation of strategy.

The role holder will champion a customer-obsessed and high-performance culture across the business and embed this mindset within SME Business Banking colleagues to better serve our customers. They will develop a sustainable local business growth strategy, focusing on maximizing existing customer relationships and cultivating new-to-bank opportunities, aligned with the bank’s overall goals. This role has full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility as a business head, as well as ensuring fair outcomes for customers.

In this role, you will:

  1. Lead the execution of business objectives to drive revenue and achieve the Annual Operating Plan targets and KPIs, building a sustainable business model through relationship building, customer contact plans, and pipeline management.
  2. Identify sales opportunities tailored to client needs and manage these from identification to sale.
  3. Share key business management metrics with the team to drive performance and coaching.
  4. Lead change initiatives, foster a positive work culture, and communicate effectively.
  5. Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
  6. Build and maintain client relationships within your area, and represent the region in leadership meetings and external events.
  7. Manage financial crime risk throughout the client lifecycle by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks.

To be successful, you should have:

  1. Strong leadership experience managing frontline teams with proven coaching skills.
  2. Extensive knowledge of the UK market, including the impact of geopolitics on business outcomes, and stakeholder connectivity.
  3. Experience in performance-driven environments achieving customer and financial targets.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire, influence, and negotiate.
  5. The ability to operate effectively under pressure, make prompt decisions, and handle ambiguity responsibly.
  6. Ability to understand customer businesses and priorities at all levels.
