Job summary

Scottish Greens in Edinburgh is seeking an experienced Communications and Operations Manager to lead Mark Ruskell MSP's office. The role blends strategic communications with day-to-day operations, including budget oversight and staff development, within a hybrid 30-hour week between Parliament and home.

You will design and implement media campaigns, produce speeches and releases, manage social channels, and coordinate regional engagement.

Qualifications

• Interest in politics and ability to support Mark Ruskell MSP in delivering parliamentary aims and values.
• Experience delivering creative and impactful communications output, both in print and digital media.
• Experience of managing staff with ability to nurture and build effective teams.
• Ability to proactively solve problems, develop systems, and adapt to challenges.
• Empathetic with ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
• Well organised with ability to prioritise competing workloads.
• Confident in managing budgets for staff resources and office provisions.
• Understanding of GDPR and data protection.
• Excellent written, verbal and IT skills with attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel for meetings and visits across the Mid Scotland and Fife Region.
• Experience of working in campaigns, communications or policy.
• Good understanding of the Mid Scotland and Fife region and key issues faced by constituents.
• Good understanding of the Scottish Parliament and parliamentary process.

Responsibilities

• Managing all communications output from the Office of Mark Ruskell, with oversight of overall media strategy.
• Planning media campaigns and implementing media and digital communication strategy, including maintaining and growing social media presence.
• Producing high quality press releases, speeches and written materials.
• Drafting and posting social media content to update constituents of Mark’s parliamentary activities.
• Keeping up to date with current media developments and representing me in dealing with the media.
• Corresponding with constituents and local campaign groups and building relationships with stakeholders.
• Ensuring the delivery of effective regional and portfolio work by designing and implementing strategies.
• Identifying key campaign and press opportunities in the region and portfolio.
• Monitoring progress of key campaigns and communications coverage.
• Liaising with other Scottish Greens MSP offices and the central communications and research team.
