Job summary

Bennett and Game Recruitment LTD is seeking a Regional Buyer for a civil engineering company in Huntingdon. The role focuses on tender and live projects, securing competitive material costs and building strong supplier relationships.

You will control costs, negotiate effectively, and coordinate with site teams to ensure materials meet specifications, quality and programme requirements.

Qualifications

• Civil engineering purchasing/procurement experience in site-based environments.
• Around 5 years' experience; strong transferable experience considered.
• Proven track record of controlling and reducing external spend.
• Strong supplier relationship management and negotiation skills.
• Experience developing and maintaining a robust supplier base.
• Experience using COINS and SharePoint would be advantageous.
• Ability to read technical drawings and extract quantities.

Responsibilities

• Manage purchasing for allocated tender projects with the Pre-Contracts Buyer.
• Purchase materials for live contracts to correct spec, price and on-time delivery.
• Develop negotiation strategies to achieve best commercial outcomes.
• Maintain and develop strategic supplier relationships.
• Identify new suppliers and negotiate supply agreements where required.
• Assist in improving purchasing processes and reducing external spend.
• Develop knowledge of COINS ERP and SharePoint.
• Read technical drawings and extract quantities where required.
• Represent the purchasing department at internal meetings as needed.
• Support the Supply Chain Manager with purchasing activity coordination.
• Work with site teams to obtain material take-offs early.
• Consolidate volumes to secure better commercial rates.
• Explore using materials already on sites to avoid unnecessary purchases.
• Coordinate with local/national authorities regarding aggregates and materials.
• Communicate opportunities to suppliers offering best value.
• Challenge traditional supply & delivery arrangements; arrange haulage if advantageous.
• Work with external waste and geotechnical consultants during tender/live stages.
• Keep site teams informed to provide practical input.
• Ensure admin support is used effectively to keep focus on purchasing.
