Job summary

Acorn Recruitment is recruiting a Refuse Collector to join a recycling team at Torr Quarry, near Kingsbridge. This outdoor, hands-on role involves collecting and disposing of household and commercial waste and recycling. Own transport is essential to access Torr Quarry.

The position runs Monday to Friday, 7am–5:30pm, on a temporary ongoing basis with a supportive local team environment.

Qualifications

• Must have own transport to Torr Quarry and travel to site.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Ability to lift heavy items.
• Basic numeracy skills and ability to follow instructions.
• Good attention to detail when identifying materials and contaminants.
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and in dusty/noisy environments.

Responsibilities

• Sort different recyclable materials accurately.
• Move wheelie bins, recycling boxes and refuse bags from kerbsides to the collection vehicle.
• Operate hydraulic lifting mechanisms to empty bins and compact waste in the truck.
• Inspect materials for contamination and report hazards.

Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting a

Refuse Collector to join a recycling team at

Torr Quarry, near Kingsbridge.

This is a hands‑on, outdoor role involving the collection and disposal of household and commercial waste and recycling. You'll be working outside in various weather conditions, handling waste and recyclable materials and supporting collection activities.

You must have your own transport to apply for this position.

What We Offer

Key Duties

• Correctly sort different recyclable materials.
• Move wheelie bins, recycling boxes and refuse bags from kerbsides and properties to the collection vehicle.
• Operate hydraulic lifting mechanisms to empty bins and compact waste inside the lorry.
• Inspect materials for contamination, identify hazardous items and report issues.
• Guide the driver safely through narrow or busy streets and assist with reversing manoeuvres.
• Sort recyclable from non‑recyclable materials and help unload waste at designated depots, tips or landfill sites.
