Job summary

Project Start Recruitment Solutions is seeking a Refrigeration Engineer for the Nottingham area, permanent role with a salary of £51,996 per annum. You will deliver planned and reactive maintenance across multiple customer sites, ensuring refrigeration and related systems meet safety, compliance and performance standards.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in the field, holds NVQ/City & Guilds in Refrigeration and a refrigerant handling qualification, and can work on-site with a full UK driving

Qualifications

• NVQ / City & Guilds in Refrigeration or related discipline.
• Refrigerant Handling qualification (2079 or CITB).
• Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration, electrical, air conditioning and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance of refrigeration equipment at customer locations.
• Service, maintain and repair refrigeration systems; assist with HVAC equipment containing refrigeration circuits.
• Prioritise maintenance and repair tasks to meet response times and SLAs.
• Identify non-repairable faults and report findings with replacement recommendations to the Line Manager.
• Ensure all PPM schedules are completed within agreed timescales.
• Complete and maintain all technical, compliance and service documentation.
• Participate in an out-of-hours standby rota and arrange cover as needed; support 24/7 service as required.

Job Purpose

This is a key engineering role responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance across multiple customer sites. You will act as the first point of response for service and maintenance activities within your allocated locations, ensuring refrigeration and associated systems are maintained to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance of refrigeration equipment at customer locations.
• Effectively service, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems and provide assistance with HVAC equipment containing refrigeration circuits.
• Prioritise maintenance and repair tasks to meet agreed response times and service level agreements.
• Identify non-repairable faults and promptly report findings to the Line Manager, including recommendations for suitable replacement solutions.
• Ensure all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules are completed within agreed timescales.
• Accurately complete and maintain all technical, compliance, and service documentation in line with procedures.
• Participate in an out-of-hours standby rota, including responsibility for arranging and communicating cover requirements due to holidays or unforeseen circumstances.
• Support a 24/7 service provision through planned and extended working hours as required.

Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesEssential

• NVQ / City & Guilds qualification in Refrigeration or a related discipline
• Refrigerant Handling qualification (City & Guilds 2079 or equivalent CITB certificate)
• Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration, electrical, air conditioning, and mechanical systems

Desirable

• BS7671 (IEE 16th or 17th Edition Wiring Regulations)
• Experience in commercial or supermarket environments
• Machine overhaul skills
• Hydrocarbon refrigerant training
• CO2 refrigerant training

The Ideal Candidate

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant industry experience
• Holds a full UK driving licence
