Roxel is an Anglo-French company that designs, develops and manufactures solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £100M and nearly 1000 staff.
The Trainee Chemical Disposals Technician responsibilities include delivering the production or disposal plan in line with the Master Production Schedule, or the Burning Ground schedule, OTOCOQ. Focusing on safe operations, carrying out tasks instructed to them by their Manager or Supervisor, co-ordinating and providing support to both functions ensuring the quality of goods and services, process optimisation, and preparing all relevant documentation as required in a safe and efficient way.
You will have experience and knowledge that ensures effective process utilisation, maximising day to day productivity. You will monitor the Teams performance with KPI’s & PSPI, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency is maintained, meeting the needs of the customer and the business.
• Promote zero harm objective by operating in accordance with any Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures (SWIM) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors and pro-actively promote and support SWIM.
• Ensure safe methods of working are utilised in all processes targeting zero harm.
• Support the updating of Risk and COSHH assessments as required in conjunction with Line Management Technical Support.
• Support completion of the updates to SHE Plan returns / safety records in as required in a timely manner.
• Responsible for ensuring their own training is updated and maintained to enable them to perform their duties.
• Co-ordinate your own time to maximise efficiency through direct bookable work and in line with business demands.
• Ensure manufacturing processes are adhered to at all times.
• Support in resolving issues such as breakdowns and other manufacturing issues and inputting into other systems when appropriate, e.g. Shire, Dynamic, etc. Manage permit to works as required.
• Provide input into daily work task lists and maximise efficiency, working alongside the Materials Planning and Logistics department.
• Ensure Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) are accurately adhered to ensuring data accuracy at all times.
• Ensure production standards including TPM and other site regulations are adhered to.
• Champion and promote 6S and Lean methodology, through training and continued coaching, thus ensuring a well organised working environment confirmed by auditing.
• Support Level 1 (Quick Response Quality Control) QRQC and SQCDPI daily meetings, provide support to Level 2 as required to escalate issues appropriately.
• Provide input to the Materials Planning and Logistics department to ensure site supplies and inventory levels are suitably maintained targeting zero outages, maintain level of consumables and escalate as required.
• Control special waste as appropriate, ensuring that waste types are clearly and correctly segregated, identified, labelled and stored appropriately.
• Maintain records, report relevant information, and prepare any necessary documentation, including but not limited to Route Cards, Skill Points Documentation, Training Records, maintaining an audit ready status.
• Provide support, input, guidance for the implementation of new products or processes, embracing new ways of working.
• Encourage a continuous improvement culture supported by the CI team.
• Support and contribute to dynamic risk assessments.
• Support and contribute to problem solving.
• Co-ordinate with other stakeholders including Line Management and other Site Departments, ensuring high levels of communication throughout the business.
• Represent the business as required, in particular conduct Burning Ground demonstration, area tours and / or provide information during external stakeholder visits.
• Strong communication with stakeholders and sometimes the Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service on potential nuisance or hazardous disposals.
• Collect contaminated explosive waste from source ensuring paperwork is correct. Communicate any disruptions to stakeholders promptly.
• To perform any other duties necessary, as requested by the business to carry out job function.
Please note: As a successful applicant you will be required to undertake an Occupational Health Assessment, be able to pass a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and at a later date Security Clearance (SC). A further condition is for the successful individual to have lived in the UK consistently for at least 5 years.
