What you could be doing...

  • Leading the day-to-day management of a busy depot, overseeing redistribution of surplus food to over 80 community partners
  • Planning and coordinating logistics for a 7-day operation including volunteer rotas, vehicle routes, and food deliveries
  • Managing a team of 4–5 paid staff and supporting a large volunteer workforce with inductions, training, and supervision
  • Maintaining high standards of food safety and health and safety across warehouse and van operations
  • Overseeing compliance in line with industry regulations, including food safety, manual handling, and environmental standards
  • Developing relationships with suppliers, community partners, and stakeholders to strengthen impact and sustainability
  • Supporting strategic projects as part of the senior leadership team and identifying operational improvements
  • Championing sustainability and continuous improvement in line with the organisation’s mission and values
  • Handling reactive daily challenges—whether that’s unloading deliveries, jumping on the phones, or problem-solving logistics
  • Preparing reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders, including trustees
  • Participating in out-of-hours and on-call rota duties (including occasional bank holidays and festive periods)

What we’re looking for...

  • Proven background in project or warehouse management, ideally in the food, charity or logistics sectors
  • Experience leading teams, including line management, 1:1s, and rota planning
  • Knowledge of food safety and health and safety standards
  • Strong administration and IT skills (Microsoft 365, Teams, scheduling tools)
  • First Aid trained and familiar with Fire Safety and compliance procedures
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, ever-changing environment
  • A practical, proactive mindset and confident decision-maker under pressure
  • Driving licence essential (experience with vans preferred)
  • A natural team player with a sleeves-up attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • Passion for environmental causes and alignment strategic mission
  • Previous experience working with volunteers or in a charitable setting highly desirable

What you’ll get in return...

  • Salary up to £30,000 per annum
  • 37.5 hours per week on a rotating shift (between 7.30am–5.30pm)
  • Fixed-term contract to March 2026 (possibility to extend)
  • On-call weekend rota shared with the team (1–2 weekends per month)
  • 23 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays
  • Home working potential one day a week
  • Employer pension contribution (6%)
  • Being part of a purpose-driven, supportive team creating real change in the local community

This is a fixed-term contract and you will be employed directly through the employer.
