The Private Cloud Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is part of the Enterprise Computing organization and is responsible for the reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence on-premises Kubernetes platform. Built on Red Hat OpenShift, the platform provides secure, compliant, and highly available container hosting services for critical business applications across the firm.
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will combine software engineering principles with operational expertise to ensure the stability and continuous improvement of a large-scale enterprise Kubernetes environment. You will work closely with platform engineering, infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver automation, improve platform resiliency, drive operational efficiencies, and support the adoption of cloud-native technologies.
This role operates within a global follow-the-sun support model and provides opportunities to influence platform strategy, reliability engineering practices, observability, upgrade programs, vulnerability remediation, and customer experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Own the reliability, availability, performance, and operational health of Kubernetes and OpenShift platform.
- Participate in incident response, on-call rotations, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvement initiatives.
- Partner with engineering teams to test, certify, and deploy platform enhancements, component releases, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Drive automation initiatives that reduce operational toil and improve platform scalability, consistency, and resilience.
- Develop and maintain tooling, scripts, dashboards, runbooks, and operational documentation.
- Manage platform lifecycle activities, including cluster upgrades, capacity planning, performance optimization, and production readiness reviews.
- Lead vulnerability management efforts by assessing, prioritizing, and remediating security risks across Kubernetes, OpenShift, operating systems, and supporting platform components.
- Enhance observability through monitoring, metrics, logging, alerting, and reliability engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with global SRE, infrastructure, security, and L2 operations teams to deliver consistent operational support across regions.
- Contribute to strategic platform initiatives focused on reliability, self-service capabilities, modernization, automation, and customer experience.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 3-7 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, Systems Engineering, or Infrastructure Operations.
- Hands‑on experience operating and supporting Red Hat OpenShift or enterprise Kubernetes platforms in production environments.
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture, container orchestration, networking, scheduling, storage, and cluster lifecycle management.
- Experience implementing GitOps practices using Flux for Kubernetes configuration and deployment management.
- Experience with observability and monitoring platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, and Loki, with the ability to build dashboards, alerts, and operational insights.
- Knowledge of HashiCorp Vault and enterprise secrets‑management patterns within Kubernetes environments.
- Strong knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, load balancing, and ingress technologies.
- Experience managing Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), security advisories, patching, and platform remediation activities.
- Experience with container image inspection, vulnerability analysis, and supply‑chain security tooling such as Skopeo.
- Experience developing automation using Python, Go, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- Understanding of SRE principles, including reliability, observability, automation, incident management, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills in a globally distributed engineering environment.
