Job summary

The IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law seeks a strategic Head of the Red List Unit to oversee the production and integrity of The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. You will lead scientific rigour, manage publication processes and liaise with senior leadership to safeguard the reputation of IUCN.

Responsibilities include guiding assessments, coordinating with partner networks, developing training and guidelines, and representing the Red List in governance discussions.

Qualifications

• PhD in environmental sciences or related subject.
• At least ten years of experience in a relevant field, with Red List assessments.
• Experience in international species conservation policy.
• Experience in international training programmes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the Integrity of The IUCN Red List.
• Manage the Red List Publication Processes.
• Promote communication of the Red List information and protocols.
• Lead on managing the Red List Unit, including staff and budgets.
• Oversee liaison with IUCN SSC, Red List Partners and governance bodies.
• Coordinate with software/data engineers to present Red List data effectively.
