Job description

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Recruitment and Onboarding Coordinator who will bring organisation and rigour to our fast-paced recruitment team, keeping the cogs turning in a rapidly growing engineering business.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Recruitment and Onboarding Coordinator who will bring organisation and rigour to our fast-paced recruitment team, keeping the cogs turning in a rapidly growing engineering business.

You'll help recruitment and onboarding run smoothly, give candidates and new starters a great experience and develop your own recruitment skills along the way.

This opportunity would suit someone organised, curious and proactive who enjoys bringing order to a busy workload, building relationships and finding ways to make things work better. You might already have recruitment or people experience, or bring strong coordination skills from another setting and be ready to develop in a new direction.

Who We Are

OpenWorks is a rapidly growing business operating globally with a passion for exceptional engineering and building on a legacy of defence innovation in the North East of England.

Our products provide ultra-high performance, real-time detection, tracking, identification and targeting of dynamic aerial threats. They have been deployed internationally to protect high profile military and civilian assets, and contribute towards the defeat of nuisance, misguided and maliciously deployed drones during operations.

We are very proud to have supported a wide range of law enforcement and military operators, protecting many of the most high profile sites and individuals around the world.

The amazing things we do are only possible because of a dedicated and passionate team.

Security Vetting Information

OpenWorks Engineering operates within the defence sector. As part of our recruitment and onboarding processes, we collect information that may be required to support future security vetting and clearance requirements, should these become necessary during employment.

Why You'll Love Working With Us

Join a high-energy, collaborative team where great ideas thrive, challenges are embraced, and people genuinely love what they do.

Here’s what our benefits have to offer:

Rewarding Success

- Competitive salary, starting from £30,000, plus a discretionary annual bonus of up to 25% of salary alongside a structured pay progression framework.

Enhanced Pension

- Up to 8% employer-matched contributions to help you plan for the future.

More Time to Recharge

- 25 days' holiday plus public holidays, long-service rewards, and the option to buy up to 5 extra days.

Breakfast & Lunch on Us

- Enjoy team breakfasts and freshly prepared lunches every day courtesy of Chef Mark and his team.

Health & Wellbeing

- Private healthcare and life assurance for added peace of mind.

Sustainable Travel

- Salary sacrifice schemes, including EV car and Cycle to Work options.

Team Socials

- Regular events, from quiz nights and football to board games and more.

Learning & Growth

- A culture that empowers you to challenge, grow and make an impact, plus a £250 annual learning budget to invest in the development that matters most to you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Recruitment Coordination: Coordinate interviews, support the preparation of adverts and application forms, manage careers enquiries and maintain accurate right to work and security vetting records.

  • Onboarding Experience: Prepare onboarding materials, arrange buddies and introductions and follow up on essential documentation so people arrive informed and ready to get started.

  • Project Support: Support the Recruitment manager to implement candidate and hiring manager feedback, identify recurring themes and help us improve their experience.

  • Bring our employer brand to life: Support recruitment events, STEM activities and future talent initiatives through practical coordination, communications and follow-up.

  • Keep people informed: Prepare internal vacancy updates and new starter profiles using digital tools.

  • Turn data into insight: Produce recruitment reports, check data quality and highlight trends that help us understand performance and where we can improve.

  • Make processes work better: Help develop our Applicant Tracking System workflows and communications, suggest practical improvements and provide occasional front-of-house cover.

What we're looking for:

Essential

  • Organisation and accuracy: You can manage competing priorities, adapt when plans change and keep track of the details that make a difference.

  • Clear communication: You write clearly, communicate professionally and feel confident building relationships and following up with people at different levels.

  • Confidence with systems and data: You're comfortable using Microsoft Office and business systems, with strong working knowledge of Excel, including organising data and producing clear summaries.

  • Initiative and teamwork: You take ownership, spot what needs doing and work collaboratively across Recruitment, People, Marketing and the wider business.

  • Curiosity and ambition: You learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions and want to understand our roles, develop recruitment expertise and take on greater responsibility.

  • Sound judgement: You handle personal and sensitive information with care, recognise when to ask for guidance and suggest practical solutions to problems.

Desirable

  • Relevant experience: Experience in recruitment, people operations, onboarding or a similar coordination role, particularly within a growing organisation.

  • Recruitment technology and reporting: Experience using an ATS or HR system, producing KPI reports or using Excel pivot tables to summarise and analyse data.
