Job description

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and is located at the Arts & Crafts Wood Shop Center on RAF Lakenheath.

This position requires shift work to provide coverage on days, evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Scheduled hours will be 00 - 40 hours per week with no minimum guarantee.

This is a developmental position. The target position/grade is Recreation Assistant (Wood Craft), NF-0189-02.

  • Citizens of the United States (US) who reside within the local commuting area (60-mile radius) of RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom (UK), or will do so within the next 30 days.
  • Eligible applicants must possess a US-issued social security number and be able to provide documentation proving residency status in the UK.
  • Applicants cannot be 'ordinarily resident'. A person is considered to be 'ordinarily resident' if they have resided in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than 366 days without an affiliation to the US Visiting Forces. Time spent in the UK as an employee, or dependent of an employee, of a US agency serving and supporting the US Visiting Forces (i.e., active duty military, federal civilian, AAFES, Red Cross, one of the contract universities, a military banking facility or federal credit union, or US government contractors) is not counted toward being 'ordinary resident'. In accordance with the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and the UK, British citizens may not apply for US NAF positions; however, they may be eligible to apply for local national positions on base.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Recreation Aid (NF-01)
  • Practical knowledge of recreation activities, rules and procedures is desirable.
  • Must be able to read, write, spell and figure basic math and measurements.
  • Ability to safeguard and handle cash and skill in the use and maintenance of various recreational equipment and facilities are desirable.
Recreation Assistant (NF-02)
  • Must have practical knowledge and experience of recreation activities equipment, rules and procedures which involve recreational work in the area of specialty in which the position is assigned (wood shop experience).
  • Must have a clear speaking voice and be able to deal with the public.
  • Must have experience with a Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Knowledge of office automation software.
