The Methodist Church in Britain is not the place of the vacancy; this secondment is in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Rota covers 11 to 12 months with focus on post-anaesthetic recovery for adults and children, including handover, airway, pain control, and wound care. NMC or HCPC registration is required and a multidisciplinary team supports professional development.

Qualifications

• Qualified nurse or ODP, or newly qualified at Band 5 level.
• NMC or HCPC registration.
• Experience in an adult acute area.

Responsabilités

• Receive patients from theatre and ensure a safe handover.
• Maintain airway management and monitor observations.
• Manage pain with appropriate analgesia.
• Monitor temperature and intervene when required.
• Administer prescribed drugs, including controlled drugs.
• Use pumps safely and effectively for analgesia.
• Provide wound care and management.
• Support safe recovery of post-surgical patients with professional standards.
• Care for adults and children in immediate post‑anaesthetic phase.
• Work in a multidisciplinary team with nurses, ODPs, TSWs and medical staff.

Description du poste

This secondment with the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust runs for 11 to 12 months. The post covers recovery of adults and children in the immediate phase after anaesthesia, including handover, airway, observations, pain control, controlled drugs and wound care. The unit has eight bays in the main theatre suite and also supports day procedures, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and dental work. NMC or HCPC registration is required.

What the job involves

• Receive patients from theatre and ensure a complete, safe handover from anaesthetist or theatre staff
• Maintain airway management and keep observations within acceptable ranges
• Manage pain with appropriate analgesia when required
• Monitor temperature and intervene when required
• Administer all prescribed drugs, including controlled drugs
• Use administration pumps and pain controlled analgesia pumps safely and effectively
• Provide wound care and management
• Take part in the safe recovery of post-surgical patients, meeting professional standards at all times
• Care for adults and children in the immediate post-anaesthetic and post-surgical phase
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with nurses, ODPs, TSWs and medical staff

Qualifications
