Job description

Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down the barriers that stop people from getting the support they need to live a life they value. We address poverty and disadvantage in communities through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing, and related support services.

We operate nearly 200 services across England, supported by approximately 3,500 staff and volunteers, helping around 125,000 people annually.

As we integrate two large organizations, some roles are still branded under 'Humankind'. Full integration of systems and processes is ongoing, including recruitment systems expected to unify next year.

Recovery Outreach Worker

Location: Kendal

Contract: Permanent

At Waythrough, we are proud to be one of England’s successful home-grown charities, providing free, confidential support for those facing challenges with alcohol, drugs, housing, or mental health. With friendly local hubs across the UK, we are committed to offering fair chances for all — because everyone deserves the support to unlock their potential.

Joining Waythrough means becoming part of a passionate, values-driven team that believes in people, even when they don’t believe in themselves. This is more than a job — it’s your opportunity to make a real and lasting difference.

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Recovery Outreach Worker to join our South Cumbria RSC Team on a part-time basis (18.5 hours/week). This role offers the chance to directly impact people's lives and wellbeing.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Supporting engagement and individuals in treatment through outreach
  2. Managing a caseload, devising, implementing, and reviewing recovery and treatment plans
  3. Facilitating and promoting individuals’ progression from engagement through structured treatment to self-sustained recovery
  4. Reducing substance-related harm to individuals and the wider community
  5. Collaborating with key partners and colleagues to achieve positive health and wellbeing outcomes
About you

You should have a passion for making a difference and believe in providing fair chances for all. An NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or above/equivalent) is required or willingness to work towards it. You should have a good understanding of and ability to deliver interventions such as brief interventions, MI, PSIs, CBT, and ITEP, with experience in delivering individual and group therapeutic interventions.

Team collaboration

You will work within our South Cumbria RSC Team, a multidisciplinary group including Recovery Coordinators, HOPE Workers, Medics, Housing and Criminal Justice workers, Individual Placement Specialists, and Volunteers. We are a supportive team passionate about supporting recovery in our community.
