Job description

Location: Dover, East Kent

Salary: GBP 24,000 per annum plus benefits

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time

We are recruiting for a Recovery Navigator in East Kent / Dover.

The Recovery Support service is available to current or former Forward Trust clients who are on a substance misuse recovery pathway, making good progress within the Forward Trust towards their personal goals, and nearing the end of their current treatment pathway.

While Recovery Support is not exclusively for clients who are abstinent, clients need to be in control of their drink and/or drug use and not be chaotic in their use, e.g., heavy drinking, antisocial behaviour, daily or binge use of drugs or alcohol (especially main substances of choice).

Forward Connect is a peer-led mutual aid community of like-minded individuals making good progress in their recovery journey, which could include overcoming addiction, moving away from crime, mental health challenges, or re-entering employment or housing.

This role will be primarily based at the Dover Hub, with flexible and hybrid working supporting the wider team.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Recovery Navigator is part of the Recovery Directorate and supports the Recovery Support Team. Using available resources, this role will support service users engaged in a recovery pathway, including those with complex needs, to transition, thrive, and reintegrate into the community.

The team adopts a person-centred approach to help service users sustain their recovery and reach their potential. We collaborate with various agencies to provide holistic, multidisciplinary support tailored to individual needs.

Recovery Navigators will be multi-skilled, offering support and interventions across all complexity levels and across Forward Trust services, ensuring flexibility and resilience to changing demands.

The role also involves facilitating access to treatment and providing additional support for individuals with co-occurring complex needs.

Recovery Navigators will actively participate in delivering Forward Trust's online day programme.

Formal line management support will be provided quarterly, with regular dialogue with your manager for ongoing support and clarification.

You will be responsible for meeting targets set by Forward Trust and your line manager. Building cooperative working relationships with partner agencies and internal teams is essential.

Some flexibility is required to support out-of-office hours and ensure continuous service delivery.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Knowledge and experience of the criminal justice sector and Recovery Agenda
  • Thorough understanding of the needs of clients in abstinence-based recovery
  • Experience assessing adults requiring support around substance misuse and supporting abstinence recovery
  • Experience in the substance misuse field or a related area
  • Proven ability to manage high caseloads, conduct risk and comprehensive assessments, develop SMART action plans, and maintain effective case records
  • Experience delivering 1:1 and group interventions using motivational techniques and trauma-informed approaches
  • Experience working effectively with adults facing multiple disadvantages, such as unemployment, homelessness, mental health issues, etc.
