Overview

To promote the ethos of Recovery College including a language of training and education, promoting the autonomy of students and promoting Recovery College courses as an alternative to mental health service user / mental health clinical groups. To provide, create and deliver a range of complex and sensitive recovery focused courses/workshops for service users, their supporters and staff. To support individuals and groups using a Peer approach. To be a positive role model for other people overcoming mental health challenges, other workers and members of the public. To use parts of your recovery story to inspire hope in others where appropriate. To provide specialist advice in relation to recovery to service users, their supporters and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Jointly lead on developing lesson plans and course materials; write training support material for new courses and update existing courses.
  • Assist in the evaluation of Recovery College training programmes and contribute to ongoing design of further programmes.
  • Act as a Recovery College personal tutor where appropriate.
  • Liaise with professional leads, supervisor, managers, team leaders, peer workers, other Trust staff and voluntary sector staff to identify and deliver Recovery College courses.
  • Identify the diverse needs of groups (service users, carers and staff) and adapt teaching and communication style accordingly; co-facilitate courses with other Trainers/clinical specialists/subject matter experts.
  • Consult and inform managers and Recovery College steering groups of issues that may affect efficient running.
  • Develop the College to operate within a coaching paradigm and adhere to learning theory in all courses.
  • Identify and address additional learning supports needed to enable course completion; promote recovery language and non-discriminatory, non-jargon, non-medicalised language.
  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of technology changes and future advances relevant to the Recovery College.
  • Contribute to development of alternative learning approaches (Remote Learning, E-Learning, Workshops, Seminars, podcasts, self-help guides, Drop-In sessions) and actively involve peers/service users in all work.
  • Engage in peer and professional supervision and apply learning to work with clients; work flexibly, including out of hours and covering colleagues’ absence as required.
  • Undertake other duties within the remit of the post as required by the Leadership Team.
  • Communication: participate in and report to the local Recovery College steering group; assist in developing curriculum and prospectus; schedule courses; liaise with professionals within the Trust and external stakeholders to identify and deliver courses/workshops; liaise with local organisations for jointly delivered courses and social inclusion opportunities.
  • Communicate with potential participants and stakeholders on service development; promote effective team communication; undertake service promotion activities; build professional relationships with students respecting views, autonomy and culture; demonstrate effective communication with students with impaired understanding; participate in local and Trust-wide meetings.
  • Documentation: produce and maintain up-to-date support material and ensure documentation is clear and accessible to Recovery College staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date written and electronic records and activity data in line with professional and Trust standards.
Professional Ethics and Development
  • Adhere to the Trust's Code of Conduct for Non-Qualified Staff and other relevant policies and procedures; respect individuality, values and diversity.
  • Training: provide, create and deliver a range of complex and sensitive recovery-focused courses/workshops; participate in dissemination of information; organise local induction of new Recovery College staff and students.
  • Professional Development: undertake training as necessary; participate in annual development review/appraisal and Personal Development Plan; attend regular supervision with manager and professional supervisor.
  • Organise and participate in reflective practice groups for recovery trainers; keep professional knowledge up to date; record training and development on MyLearning.
Qualifications/Experience
  • Have experience of mental health challenges and be able to utilise this in day-to-day practice.
  • Experience working with people with mental health challenges; line management/supervision and/or staff development experience is beneficial.
  • Be a resilient and resourceful individual who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience delivering training or facilitating groups; strong communication, listening, and empathy; ability to relay personal experiences to benefit others.
