A local healthcare provider in Newcastle Emlyn is seeking a Practice Receptionist for a 6-month fixed-term position to cover maternity leave. Responsibilities include assisting the practice team, managing patient inquiries, and maintaining administrative systems. Good communication skills are essential, and IT skills are an advantage. The role requires a friendly and outgoing demeanor, with Welsh language skills desirable but not essential. Comprehensive training will be provided.

The purpose of the role is to
Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way
Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice, including the provision of clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team
Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies
To provide general clerical support to the practice manager, doctors and health professionals.
Friendly Practice located in the rural area of Newcastle Emlyn. We are a partnership of five doctors together with 3 salaried doctors, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and a full health care team of practice nurses, community nurses, pharmacist, health visitor and midwives, assisted by our administrative staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
2. Deal with any telephone enquiries in a respectful and friendly manner, ensuring correct details are recorded and forwarded to relevant personnel within an appropriate time scale.
3. Maintain an appointments register.
4. Relay messages and home visits to appropriate staff/GPs within an appropriate time scale.
5. Provide repeat prescriptions on request.
6. Maintain an accurate filing system both paper and electronic.
7. Keep reception area tidy and safe.
8. Provide medical administration support (including arranging appropriate follow up appointments)
9. Be aware of and maintain confidentiality through knowledge of the Caldicott guidelines.
10. Be aware of and maintain all Health & Safety Regulations.
11. Any ad hoc duties as required by the Practice Manager or Senior Receptionist.
12. Continuing education including CPR update.
