Job description

Burney Street Practice is one GPPractice that operates from two sites in the Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham less than a 10 minute walk from each other.

The practice is managed by 3 GPPartners, supported by a Patient Services &Complaints Manager, a Governance Manager and a HR Manager.

Additional team members are salariedGPs, a nursing team, and administrative and reception team members as well asPrimary Care Network and community staff.

What We Require

We are looking for an excellentReceptionist & Administrator to join ourteam. Ideally we would prefer someone who has GP experience orexperience of working in a medical environment, but we would still welcomeapplications from someone who has no experience, but is willing and quick tolearn.

The following days and hours of work that werequire are:

Monday to Friday inclusive.

Working between the hours of 6.45am to 6.30pm.

In addition you must be able to work until 8pm one day a week on a rotational basis.

Job Summary

First point of contact for patientsvisitors and colleagues in person or by telephone. The successfulcandidate will be expected to work in reception and meet and greet patients andhandle their queries with an awareness of the needs of the patient. It is therole of the receptionist to assist patients in the easiest possible way to seea clinician and be friendly courteous and efficient at all times. To receive,assist and direct patients in accessing other appropriate health services in aneffective and efficient way.

Accurate administration is important to ensure that the work ofthe practice is carried out efficiently throughout the day.

Main Duties &Responsibilities - Reception

Ensure an effective andefficient reception service is provided to patients visitors to thepractice.

Deal with all generalenquiries, and explain practice and reception processes and procedures.

To ensure an effectiveand efficient admin service is provided to patients,colleagues ,stakeholders and any other visitors to the practice.

To monitor and managepractice mailboxes, DOCMAN and tasks.

To scan all patient andpractice documentation.

To perform any otherrelevant duties that may be dictated by the needs of the practice.

Job responsibilities

Working in General Practice is a job that requires various skills and experiences. As a member of our Reception & Admin team, if you are not already experienced, you will be trained and supported into a diverse role with many components. Although at times the role can be extremely busy, you will enjoy the role and never be bored!

Person Specification
  • Understanding of primary care delivery in the NHS.
  • Previous experience in a health care or similar environment.
  • Motivation and Commitment to working in the NHS and patient care.
Experience
  • A professional approach to patients, colleagues, external health professionals, community and other stakeholders linked to the practice.
  • Experience of working in a GP Practice or medical health setting.
  • Able to use EMIS, familiar with eConsults.
  • Minimum of six months experience of face to face customer or patient services.
  • Experience of dealing with the public by telephone.
  • Excellent communication skills when dealing with patients and others via telephone or, face to face.
Qualifications
  • Educated to GCSE level in Maths and English or equivalent Experience.
  • A good understanding of written and spoken English as well as able to write and speak English to carry out the role.
Information Technology
  • Must have good keyboard skills.
  • Able to use computers efficiently, including Microsoft Windows packages.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data quickly and efficiently.
  • Experience of using computerised customer or patient records.
  • Respects the different cultures & beliefs of patients and colleagues.
  • Understanding of the importance of equal opportunities & diversity issues.
