Job description

To provide an efficient, courteous and helpful reception service to patients, their families and other professionals when they contact the Preoperative Assessment Service.


To undertake various clerical duties associated with the custody and use of Health Records. This will include all administrative procedures and documentation associated with a patient’s journey through the Preoperative Assessment Service, as outlined in the Patient Access Policy.


It is expected that staff will undertake clerical duties relating to any aspect of the service and demonstrate a significant level of initiative in organising their workload and in taking decisions and action within clearly defined limits. They will also ensure the requirements of the role are done in a timely manner.


To ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.


To undertake full receptionist duties, ensuring the service is efficient and welcoming.


To answer all incoming telephone calls and deal with them as appropriate, ensuring that messages are communicated effectively and correctly.


To accurately input, update and amend all patient-related information onto the computerised Patient Administration System (PAS).


To cover the bookings team, booking, cancelling, or changing appointments using the Patient Administration System (PAS) when required.


To convey appropriate information and messages received from patients, colleagues, and managerial staff accurately and timely to the appropriate professionals and disciplines as authorised.
