You will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of reception duties and the provision of general support to the practice team. You will participate in a training programme that will be tailored to your learning needs.

Main duties of the job

Duties can include butare not limited to, greeting and directing patients, effective use of theappointment system, booking appointments, processing information and assistingpatients as required. Receptionists act as the central point of contact forpatients, the distribution of information, messages and enquiries for theclinical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and externalagencies such as secondary care and community service providers.

Main duties and responsibilities

Book patients in, on arrival at the practice and monitor those usingself-check in

Make new, follow-up, routine, emergency and home visit appointments of anappropriate length for patients needs

Cancel and/or re-arrange appointments, as necessary

Receive, navigate and make telephone calls, as required

Promptly take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail

Processincoming and outgoing mail

Facilitateeffective communication with patients and other service users

Initiatecontact with and respond to, requests from patients via email and text messaging service

Initiatecontact with and respond to, requests from team members and external agencies

Photocopy,scan and shred documents as required

File andstore records as required

Inputdata into the patients healthcare records, as necessary and ensuring accuracy

Managewritten, verbal and electronic communication in a diplomatic, empathetic,supportive and informative way, especially when dealing with sensitiveinformation

Managequeries in an efficient manner

Qualifications
  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths at level C / 5 or above
  • Previous experience in an NHS environment
Experience
  • A minimum of one years experience in a customer focused area working with the public. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral). A team player with a proven track record. Excellent IT skills - Word, Excel, and NHS Clinical systems EMIS. Aproachable, caring and sensitive manner. Good telephone communication skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative. Ability to work with a wide variety of tasks. Willingess to learn new systems quickly. Previous experience of working in health care services.
