Job Title: Reception SEND Teaching Assistant
Job Type: Temporary, Part-Time (Term-Time Only)
Contract Dates: Monday 19th May 2025 – Friday 18th July 2025
Working Hours: 8:45am – 3:15pm, Monday to Friday (30 hours per week)

Sussex Teachers are recruiting a Reception SEND Teaching Assistant to work at a welcoming, community-focused Infant school in Hassocks, West Sussex. This is a temporary teaching assistant job supporting a child in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with complex learning needs and speech and language difficulties.

You will provide 1:1 support during morning sessions, working outside the classroom on a reduced, play-based timetable, followed by general classroom assistance in the afternoon.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a child with SEND and speech and language needs in Reception.
  • Deliver tailored learning support for the first 2 hours each day, outside of the main classroom.
  • Assist the teacher with classroom activities, group learning, and phonics instruction.
  • Support personal, social, and emotional development in line with EYFS framework.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and families to monitor and encourage progress.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children in EYFS, Reception, nursery, or early childhood settings (within the last 3 years).
  • Understanding of special educational needs (SEND) and early intervention strategies.
  • Familiarity with speech and language delay, global developmental delay (GLD), and sensory needs.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A calm, patient, and positive approach to behaviour and learning support.
