The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a skilled lead RF engineer to join the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) team, with responsibility for the receiver subsystem within the Team Tempest demonstrator Multi-Function Antenna. This UK-only project is a key part of the overall GCAP programme and will be part of the flight trials programme on Leonardo's 757 trials aircraft, Excalibur. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to play a fundamental role in a defence programme of critical national importance, and to shape the future of Combat Air capability in the UK.
The role is varied but focusses on the design, integration and test of the radar receiver subsystem. As the subsystem lead, you will be responsible for creating high quality and robust electronics design; for fully documenting and recording your work products; ensuring all certification processes are adhered to and documented; keeping the design under configuration management and providing plans and reports on progress.
With a diverse mix of skills already in the team, this role can be tailored to suit the right applicant.
With this role, your key areas of responsibility will be
Hardware requirements management
Functional design of the receiver subsystem
Technical management of design engineers through the lifecycle
Ownership of the electronics work packages within the subsystem
Developing plans for subsystem level integration and verification
Contributing towards LRI integration and verification plans
Chairing of design reviews within the Physical Hardware Design Process
Acting as primary point of contact to Engineering Management for all aspects of Electronics Engineering development
Mentoring and supervision of more junior team members
With this role, you will get:
Domain knowledge: you will apply and develop your knowledge of receiver electronics in a fast-paced and dynamic development team.
Continuous learning: you’ll be supported in your ongoing professional development though training and mentoring, in engineering lifecycle processes, leadership, or your own personal development.
Teamwork: you will work alongside like-minded professional engineers in a highly collaborative environment.
Engineering heritage: you will join a team with a rich heritage in Engineering, with 100 years’ experience of pioneering development.
To be considered for this role as the Receiver Subsystem Lead, you will have experience in several of the following areas:
Functional design of complex subsystems
FPGAs
High speed digital interfaces (10 Gbps and faster)
Using industry standard toolsets such as Matlab and Mentor DxDesigner
Working collaboratively across functions or in a multi-function team including Mechanical, Firmware, Software, Manufacturing and Layout Engineers
Hands-on testing and integration with complex electronics in a laboratory environment
You really must have:
A familiarity with receiver and synthesiser subsystems
Experience in planning for test and integration activities
Experience with design tools and also working within the lab
A passion for new technology
A desire to improve how we deliver to our customers
Hybrid working patterns are available with this role however you should expect to work on site regularly – the security aspects of the projects require this, as does the need for hands-on lab work.
