Job description

Job description

Framestore's Preproduction Services division enables filmmakers and showrunners to make early-stage, creative decisions that can then guide their entire production. We have over a hundred creatives, technologists and producers working across concept art, previsualisation, virtual production, in-camera VFX, techvis and postvis.

Framestore combines talent and technology to bring life to everything we create. Driven by creativity and inspired by the future, we set out every day to reframe the possible.

The Role

Realtime Environment Artists within our pre-production department blend artistic vision with technical expertise, collaborating closely with developers, visualisation artists, and VFX teams to build high-quality, performant real-time environments for feature films and episodic productions.

As a Realtime Environment Artist, you'll work with Visualization and VFX Supervisors to create stunning and efficient real-time environments in Unreal Engine. Your focus will be on level art, set dressing, texturing, and optimisation, ensuring assets meet both aesthetic and technical requirements. You'll collaborate with Asset Builders to integrate Characters and Props seamlessly into the environment, contributing to the overall look and feel while adhering to best practices in environment construction and performance.

You'll be involved in optimising environment workflows and ensuring the best possible visual fidelity and real-time performance in Unreal Engine. This role requires 2 days a week minimum in office at our Chancery Lane studio and may also require project-specific travel to work on-set at studios around London like Shepperton & Pinewood. Please note that we are unable to support international relocation or VISA applications for this role at this time.

What you'll do:

  • Create high-quality 3D assets, built in Unreal Engine and in external DCCs like Maya or Houdini, modelling high poly, hard surface and organic forms as well as creating textures and shaders
  • Working with Lookdev assets in Unreal Engine - you'll create photoreal assets optimised for VP workflows and VR - focusing on PBR workflows, realistic lighting and performance optimisation
  • Create high-quality, photoreal environments with bespoke kits and marketplace content for Level design
  • Create high-quality light rigs for realistic and cinematic content
  • Collaborate with the Virtual Production team to benchmark, optimise and enhance performance in Unreal scenes and profile hardware (GPU, CPU, Network)
  • Create and maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of workflows, processes and tools

Job requirements

  • Demonstrable technical knowledge and strong creative and artistic skills
  • Hands-on experience with look development, lighting, and rendering
  • Complete understanding of Unreal Engine
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Positive attitude towards learning and collaboration
