Reality Capture Operative – Drone, 3D Scanning, GIS, and Geospatial Technologies

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Reality Capture Operative with a strong background in drone technology, 3D scanning, GIS, and geospatial data management. This role is critical for capturing, processing, and delivering high-quality spatial data for projects in construction, infrastructure, environmental management, and digital twin creation. If you have a passion for innovative data collection and the ability to transform raw data into actionable insights, this position is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Acquisition
    • Conduct field surveys using drones, laser scanners, and high-resolution cameras to capture 3D spatial data.
    • Plan and execute aerial and ground-based data capture missions for various applications, including topographic surveys, building information modelling (BIM), and as-built documentation.
    • Use UAVs equipped with LiDAR, photogrammetry, and infrared sensors to collect precise spatial data.
    • Perform pre-flight site assessments and risk evaluations to ensure safe and efficient data collection.
  • Data Processing and Analysis
    • Process raw spatial data into 3D models, digital surface models (DSMs), and orthomosaic maps using photogrammetry and point cloud software (e.g., Pix4D, Bentley ContextCapture, RealityCapture).
    • Validate, clean, and optimise 3D data for accuracy and completeness.
    • Integrate captured data into GIS platforms for further analysis and project planning.
    • Generate high-quality visualisations, fly-through videos, and digital twins for client presentations.
  • Quality Control and Assurance
    • Perform quality checks on collected data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
    • Implement best practices for data storage, backup, and version control.
    • Collaborate with project teams to refine data capture methodologies and improve overall data quality.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Calibration
    • Maintain and calibrate UAVs, scanners, and camera systems to ensure optimal performance.
    • Manage equipment inventory, perform routine checks, and troubleshoot technical issues as needed.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work closely with surveyors, engineers, project managers, and data analysts to deliver comprehensive project outputs.
    • Provide technical support and training to team members on reality capture technologies.
    • Prepare detailed reports and data summaries for internal and client use.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in reality capture, geospatial data collection, or 3D scanning.
  • Strong technical skills in photogrammetry, LiDAR, and 3D modeling software (e.g., Pix4D, Bentley ContextCapture, RealityCapture, Leica Cyclone).
  • Experience with UAV operations and data processing workflows.
  • Familiarity with GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and geospatial data formats (.shp, .las, .obj).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.
