Job summary

Miller Maxwell Ltd is seeking a high-performance Linux Systems Engineer to join our trading technology client, working at the heart of a real-time execution platform. You’ll engineer, optimise, and support the Linux infrastructure that powers global trading strategies, ensuring ultra‑low latency, high throughput, and absolute reliability.

You’ll work with cross-functional teams to maintain and improve live trading systems, deploying automation with Python and Bash, and tuning kernel parameters

Qualifications

• Deep hands-on experience with Linux systems engineering in high-availability or trading environments.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, hardware, networking, and performance bottlenecks.
• Proficiency in Python and shell scripting for automation and tooling.
• Experience with configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, SaltStack).
• Understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/UDP, multicast, routing, DNS.
• Ability to operate calmly and decisively in production-critical, time-sensitive situations.
• Bonus: experience with low-latency systems, kernel tuning, FPGA-adjacent workflows, or exchange connectivity.

Responsibilities

• Engineer, tune, and operate Linux-based trading infrastructure supporting live front-office trading.
• Troubleshoot complex OS, hardware, and network issues across a latency-sensitive production environment.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, and systems management using Python, Bash, and modern config-management tools.
• Benchmark, profile, and optimise system performance — from kernel parameters to NIC tuning — to reduce latency and increase stability.
• Deploy, test, and maintain mission-critical applications used directly by traders and quants.
• Manage core services (DNS, NTP/PTP, DHCP, LDAP, NFS) across on-prem and cloud environments.
