Job Summary

This role involves managing the tax affairs of the European Real Estate Equity Funds and Separate Account mandates. The focus of this role is providing the necessary tax support across all phases of the deal cycle and investment holding period.

Primary Responsibilities

The candidate will be required to support the following core processes:

  • Determination, in conjunction with advisors, of the appropriate structure to use when acquiring new investments. Reviewing tax structure and TDD reports and subsequently managing the transition from acquisition to operation, including relevant registrations and elections.
  • Modelling the potential tax impact when making disposals as well as responding to the IRLs issued by prospective purchasers.
  • Responding to investor queries and reviewing side letter requests.
  • Being the point person for all tax related questions from colleagues in the Real Estate business.
  • Procurement and management of external tax advisers in respect of direct and indirect tax compliance. This will involve overseeing the tax compliance obligations of approximately 200 investment subsidiaries/holding companies across Europe, including for specialist investment vehicles such as REITs.
  • Oversight of investor reporting (US K-1, German reporting, French 3% tax filings etc)
  • Maintaining a robust tax governance framework with respect to all Real Estate funds
  • Monitoring and internally communicating relevant tax changes across Europe.

Qualifications

  • Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CTA or equivalent
  • Ideally 3 or more years of experience with real estate funds with a good understanding of key tax issues
  • Strong tax compliance experience
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and a commercial mindset with the ability to build strong collegiate relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to articulate complex tax issues in a way that can be easily understood by non-tax colleagues
  • Proactive and practical with an ability to identify and implement continuous improvements in relation to controls and processes.
  • Ability to quickly understand new tax rules and the impact they can have on the business.
