CMS are looking for an experienced Real Estate Paralegal to join our Legal Services Unit in our Glasgow or Edinburgh office. The Legal Services Unit is the central paralegal team at CMS, assisting the associates and partners across the different departments in the UK offices on a wide variety of tasks and projects. This Paralegal role will focus on supporting our thriving Real Estate team.

About the Role

CMS is seeking a Real Estate Paralegal to join our Legal Services Unit. The role will focus on supporting our clients, both internally and externally, on a variety of real estate transactions which will also include working on transactions independently (with appropriate supervision) from inception to completion.

Paralegal responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Managing a busy caseload of transactions, including liaising with the client to obtain instructions;
  2. Drafting and negotiating documents such as offers, leases, variations, dispositions, licences to occupy and other ancillary lease documentation;
  3. Dealing with sales and purchases, including plot sales and deeds of servitude;
  4. Reviewing and reporting on titles and dealing with ad hoc title queries from solicitors and clients;
  5. Managing completion and post-completion registrations, forms, filing and client signing / reporting requirements;
  6. Providing regular updates to clients on the progress of a matter;
  7. Providing ad hoc support on real estate projects;
  8. Assisting with file opening procedures, including preparing first drafts of retainer letters and ensuring compliance with money laundering regulations;
  9. Working with data rooms and online trackers;
  10. Dealing with billing for your transactions.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Real Estate-focused Paralegal. You will have a keen eye for detail with the ability to use your initiative while dealing with multiple tasks. You will have excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to prioritise conflicting deadlines while handling a busy workload. You must be an enthusiastic individual with exceptional communication skills and the ability to work well in a team. You will have a strong academic background and a degree in law or equivalent qualification is preferred, but not essential.

To be considered for the Real Estate Paralegal role, you will also have experience of working as a Paralegal within a Real Estate legal environment. Full training will be provided on our systems and processes, and we also have an ongoing training programme to help develop both legal knowledge and soft skills.
