Job description

Overview

Associate - Real Estate Disputes - Birmingham

Our client is seeking a talented Associate to join their Real Estate Disputes (RED) team, based in Birmingham. You'll be part of a dynamic group of six fee earners locally, working closely with national RED team partners on a wide range of complex and stimulating matters.

This role offers a blend of advisory and litigation work, advising a diverse commercial client base including investors, developers, charities, educational institutions, and healthcare providers. You'll also support matters arising from insurance and private client teams.

A key aspect of the role involves collaborating with the wider non-contentious real estate team, helping clients navigate property issues proactively to avoid disputes. Where litigation is necessary, you'll guide clients through to settlement or trial, delivering practical, high-quality advice informed by deep litigation experience.

Responsibilities
  • Possession and forfeiture
  • Lease renewals and rent reviews
  • Adverse possession and option disputes
  • Rights of way and protestor injunctions
  • Asset management and strategic property advice

You'll handle matters in the High Court, County Court, First Tier and Upper Tribunals, and engage in alternative dispute resolution methods such as arbitration and expert determination.

The team has particular expertise in advising local and central government bodies, universities, NHS trusts, private healthcare providers, and charities. While some team members specialise in areas like business rates, agricultural tenancies, telecoms, and professional negligence, you'll be exposed to a broad and intellectually rewarding caseload.

You'll manage your own matters, support partners on complex cases, and contribute to national team initiatives, including marketing and seminars.

What We're Looking For
  • 2-4 years PQE with solid real estate disputes experience
  • Tribunal and court experience
  • Strong academic background
  • Excellent drafting and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative mindset
  • Enthusiasm for business development and client relationship building
  • Genuine interest in property law and dispute resolution
  • Pragmatic problem-solving approach
  • Ability to work across teams and sectors
Why Apply?

Our client's RED team is highly regarded both internally and externally, with strong relationships across leading chambers and a reputation for excellence. The team has grown significantly in recent years and continues to expand.

You'll benefit from a supportive environment focused on professional development, teamwork, and career progression. The firm is known for its inclusive culture, innovative working practices, and commitment to employee wellbeing.

The Package

A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package are offered. Details of core benefits are available on request.
