Job description

Job: Reading Recovery Teacher

Start date: September 2025

Salary: MPS/UPS (inner London)

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Aston Education is looking for a Reading Recovery Teacher for an Ofsted Good 11-16 secondary school in Lambeth, South London.

The school is fully committed to ensuring that their students have a good reading age, so that they have the best opportunity to get the highest outcomes at GCSE. Reading underpins everything they do.

All students take a Bedrock Reading Test 3 times a year. The outcomes of the tests are analysed and then interventions begin. All students receive support with their reading through Read to succeed and Literacy 6. The students who have a reading age of below 9 years old will receive rapid intervention (Rapid Plus).

As a Reading Recovery Teacher, you'll teach and support students in smaller groups to improve their reading ages to chronological reading ages. You'll work closely with the English and the SEND Departments.

You have experience teaching mainstream secondary students with reading and have a proven track record of improving reading age to chronological reading age. You have a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and specialism in English/Literacy.

The school offers:

  • Additional PPA time for all teachers: The school believes that lessons are better taught when teachers have enough time to plan, prepare and assess. All teachers receive a minimum of 5 hours of non-contact time each week during the school day.
  • Teachers' pension
  • Excellent facilities
  • Excellent professional development programme
  • Funding for a range of Masters qualifications
  • Confidential coaching sessions
  • Confidential counselling sessions
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Annual travel season ticket loan

Ofsted says: This is a caring school with an inclusive ethos. Leaders have created a strong community feel. Pupils spoken to said, 'this school is very welcoming and open' and 'it feels like family'. They behave well during lessons and around the school site.

This is a vibrant and oversubscribed school.
