We are seeking a full-time Consultant Neuropsychiatrist to join Cygnet at Bristol, providing senior medical cover on Clipper and Ketch Wards. You will be the Responsible Clinician, oversee inpatient care, audit medical services, and ensure GMC standards are met.
You will be supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team, contributing to life-changing treatments for ABI/TBI and neuropsychiatric care. Excellent rewards and development opportunities offered.
Qualifications
- Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
- Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status.
- Experienced and knowledgeable in Neuropsychiatry.
- Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- First-rate communicator able to interview, assess and treat patients; write clear notes.
- Committed to continuing professional development and working in a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Lead on high quality care for service users admitted to Clipper and Ketch Wards.
- Act as a positive role model; maintain a professional attitude toward patients, families and staff.
- Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations of service users.
- Undertake investigations, diagnosis and treatment.
- Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits.
- Lead risk assessment, risk management and clinical governance.
- Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and hearings; attend hearings.
- Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfers and leave approvals.
- Maintain patient records and regular communications with Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
- Contribute to CPD and attend academic meetings; adhere to GMC standards.

our 10 bed male service for patients with brain injury and neurodegenerative conditions
and
Ketch Ward,
our 6 bed
male neuropsychiatric service focusing on Optimisation and Consolidation.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.

our 32 bed male Neuropsychiatric hospital offering care and treatment for those affected by an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
The hospital with Triangle of Care Accredited CQC Good
soon to be outstanding, supports the Level 1 Neuropsychiatric Rehabilitation pathway for the South West and as such accommodates Level 1 & 2a patients across all of the wards; focusing on the service users individual needs in order to prioritize the ward location.
Our specialist neuropsychiatric care and treatment service in Bristol is also rated
‘Outstanding’ by Headway, the Brain Injury Association.

Main duties and Responsibilities…
- Lead on the provision of high quality care to the service users admitted to Clipper and Ketch Wards
- Act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.
- Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team
- Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
- Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment
- Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews & clinical audits
- Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance within the service
- Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers’ hearings & attend hearings
- Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required
- Good maintenance of patient records
- To ensure and maintain regular communications with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
- To communicate effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors, and any other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriate reports.
- Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to the professional standards for CPD as set out by the GMC, the Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Contribute to the On call rota
