Job summary

The Opportunity

An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership across major structural projects, operating within highly regulated and technically demanding environments. This is a pivotal, permanent role offering influence, autonomy and the opportunity to shape both projects and people.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the delivery of structural design across large projects or multiple concurrent workstreams, ensuring quality, safety and programme are maintained
• Manage, mentor and develop teams of engineers, technicians and graduates, ensuring appropriate resourcing and technical support
• Review and approve structural outputs including calculations, drawings, reports, specifications and digital models, acting as a recognised technical authority
• Control budgets, programmes and change management while contributing to bids, fee proposals and technical scopes of work
• Promote safe design, buildable solutions, sustainability and continuous improvement while reporting progress and performance to senior leadership

Qualifications and experience

• Chartered Engineer status via IStructE or ICE, with extensive experience leading structural design teams
• Strong working knowledge of UK structural design codes, standards and assurance processes
• Broad technical capability across building structures, substructures, materials and structural assessment, with experience in complex or regulated sectors
• High proficiency using structural analysis software, with the ability to review and challenge complex analytical models
• Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance, a valid CSCS card, full right to work in the UK and a full UK driving licence
