Job summary

Tesco is seeking a Software Development Engineer II (Java) in London to help shape the Customer API. You will deliver end-to-end features, mentor peers, and contribute to scalable, secure systems in a fast-paced team.

Based in the London Farringdon office, you will work closely with cross-functional partners, adopt CI/CD practices, and grow towards SDE3 with career development support and practical leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering Java/JVM based services with Spring Boot or similar.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
• Experience with microservices, CI/CD and scalable software delivery.

Responsibilities

Software Development Engineer II (Java) - Customer API (London)

About the roleBased in our London Farringdon offices (not Welwyn Garden City). As an SDE2 at Tesco, you are a mid-level individual contributor whose impact reaches across your team. You provide technical leadership for medium to large features, participate in their design, and take accountability for delivery. You are expected to implement and ship end-to-end stories, support other engineers, and start to build and prioritize your own work by understanding team problems and proposing solutions. This role is a stepping stone towards SDE3, with a focus on career development and technical growth. • Developing high-quality software solutions, with proficiency in Java (Spring Boot or other frameworks).

• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools (Splunk, xMatters, New Relic).
• Experience working with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
• Good English communication skills
• Experience in system design
• Experience in taking ownership of a project and leading a team from technical/ project perspective
