Job summary

Tesco Technology is building a robust, internet-facing HTTP API that powers pricing and promotions across Tesco channels. The team handles high availability of a distributed system used by millions, blending in-store and cloud deployments, with modern JVM ecosystems and Agile practices.

You will design and implement end-to-end systems, translate product requirements into maintainable code, write test-driven features, and collaborate with stakeholders to shape features and improve production

Qualifications

• Proven experience with Java 8+ in production systems.
• Strong SQL and NoSQL skills for scalable data stores.
• Experience on cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, etc.).
• Ability to design and scale distributed systems.
• Familiar with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
• Exposure to reactive programming paradigms.
• Bonus: experience in eCommerce or search systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement end-to-end systems using deep JVM expertise.

• Write test-driven features and follow the TDD/BDD cycle.
• Apply SOLID principles for cohesive, scalable design.
• Design, build, deploy and maintain required infrastructure.

and Kafka, built using Terraform, running in Kubernetes on Azure utilising GitHub Actions pipelines.
We follow Agile principles, adapting Kanban and other methodologies to fit the
team’s needs.
