Job summary

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is seeking an experienced Lead Tutor to lead the development and continuous improvement of our English and maths curriculum for adults, delivering high-quality learning and supporting tutors to raise standards.

You'll work with the Delivery Manager and Quality Team, teach and inspire learners, monitor progress, and help learners achieve their goals while fostering inclusive, engaging learning across the service.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching English and/or maths to adults.
• Recognised teaching qualification and knowledge of QA.
• Ability to lead curriculum development and support others.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and continuous improvement of Adult Skills English and Maths provision, ensuring a high-quality curriculum that meets learner, funding and organisational needs.
• Coach and mentor tutors to improve teaching, learning and assessment, sharing best practice and promoting consistently high standards across the curriculum.
• Deliver English and/or Maths courses, planning and teaching engaging learning programmes that support learner achievement, retention and progression.
• Monitor learner performance, attendance and achievement, implementing interventions and support strategies to improve outcomes and maximise learner success.
• Work collaboratively with managers and quality teams to support quality assurance activities, including observations, standardisation, self-assessment and quality improvement planning.

The Role:

Are you passionate about improving adults' lives through high-quality English and Maths education? We're looking for an experienced and motivated Lead Tutor to join our Adult and Community Learning team.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development and continuous improvement of our English and maths curriculum while supporting tutors to deliver engaging, inclusive and high-quality learning. You'll play a key role in raising standards, embedding English and maths across the wider curriculum, and helping learners achieve their goals. Working closely with the Delivery Manager and Quality Team, you'll contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance, learner success and continuous improvement, while maintaining excellent relationships with learners, colleagues and partners.

Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you'll continue to teach and inspire learners through your own delivery. We're looking for someone with experience of teaching English and/or maths to adults, a recognised teaching qualification, strong knowledge of quality assurance and curriculum development, and the ability to support and develop others. Most importantly, you'll share our commitment to helping adults gain the skills, confidence and qualifications they need to progress in learning, employment and everyday life.
