Job summary

Mencap is seeking a compassionate Support Worker to join the Stockport team. You will support four gentlemen with learning disabilities, assisting with daily activities, building relationships, and promoting independence in a safe, respectful environment.

You’ll work part-time hours (30 per week) with shifts spanning days and sleep-in options. The role offers training, holiday benefits, and a supportive team at our Stockport site.

Calling all compassionate and dedicated individuals! Mencap is seeking passionate Support Workers to join our incredible team in Stockport – SK7

As a Support Worker you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs. The service is currently home to 4 gentlemen all with their own interests, personalities and support needs. From assisting with daily activities to providing emotional support, you’ll play a vital role in their life.

We support people to achieve their goals and aspirations, some examples of what has been achieved; becoming a volunteer, attend an employment course, travel training, working with animals, going to the gym, baking & cooking, going swimming, gardening, going to the shop alone for the first time, achieving steps to independence.

Getting people involved in every aspect of their support is key to a happy and fulfilled life, so you will need to be always encouraging and positive and person centred about promoting this, sometimes something as simple as encouraging someone opening their own curtains can make them feel good about their day.

The house is near to local bus routes, getting to and from work should not be a problem.

This year people we support have been able to go on holiday, this has been down to the commitment and efforts of the fantastic team you may be joining.

What we're looking for:

• A genuine passion for supporting others.

• Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.

Contract options:

• Part time - 30 hrs

Shift times:

• Days: Between 10:00 – 22:00
• Sleep In: 22:00 – 07:00

There is also a sleep-in available where you will receive an enhanced flat rate payment of £64.20.
