Responsibilities

  • Carry out appropriate adult call-outs to venues as required.
  • Support and assist a child or vulnerable adult through custody process or meetings.
  • Ensure rights understood during police interviews, age assessments, meetings, etc.
  • Ensure health, well-being, legal rights, access to solicitor and entitlements observed.
  • Assist with communication between the vulnerable adult/child and professionals.
  • Consult custody records to clarify concerns raised by the individual or professionals.
  • Complete appropriate adult report form and return to duty officer within 24 hours.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and prevent disclosure to third parties.
  • Attend training, support, and 1-1 sessions as required.
  • Safeguard and promote welfare of the vulnerable individual.
  • Treat all individuals fairly and do not discriminate on any grounds.
  • Report to manager if there is any concern.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve as an Appropriate or Responsible Adult. This vital role involves supporting young people or vulnerable adults during legal processes, ensuring their rights and welfare are protected. The ideal candidate will possess experience working with children, mentoring skills, and a genuine desire to provide reassurance and guidance in challenging situations. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference within the community while gaining valuable experience in safeguarding and support roles.

Responsibilities
  • To carry out appropriate adult call-outs to any venue that may be required.
  • To support and assist a child (legally under the age of 18 years) or vulnerable adults through the custody process or any relevant meeting.
  • To ensure that the vulnerable adult or child understands their rights during any relevant process eg Police interviews, Age Assessments, meetings etc.
  • To ensure that the health, well-being, legal rights, access to a solicitor and entitlements of the vulnerable adult or child is observed.
  • To assist with communication between the vulnerable adult/child and the professionals.
  • To consult the vulnerable adult or child’s custody record, to clarify and check any concerns raised by the vulnerable adult, child or professionals.
  • To complete the appropriate adult report form, ensuring that all relevant information is recorded correctly, clearly and concisely and ensure that this is returned to the duty officer within 24 hours of job completion.
  • To Maintain the confidentiality of information received in the course of your role and ensure that information is not disclosed to a third party.
  • To attend and participate in continuous training, support and 1-1 sessions as required.
  • To actively ensure the safeguarding and promote the welfare of the vulnerable adult or child whilst undertaking the above duties.
  • Treat all individuals fairly and not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, ethnicity or racial origin, sexual orientation, social background, religion, disability or any other factor
  • Report to manager, if there is any concern
