Job summary

Westray Recruitment Consultants is seeking an Industrial Paint Prepper / Sprayer for a production role within a busy industrial manufacturing environment. You will prepare goods for painting, apply primers, epoxies, and top coats, and read coating specifications while working closely with the production team.

The position requires experience with air-assisted airless spray equipment, surface preparation techniques, and a strong focus on quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Experience applying protective coatings to industrial products such as steel fabrications or tanks.
• Ability to read and interpret paint specifications and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of surface preparation techniques and coating application processes.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements in industrial painting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare goods for painting through grinding, sanding, chipping, cleaning, and other surface preparation methods.
• Apply protective coatings including primers, epoxies, intumescent coatings, and top coats using spray equipment.
• Read and interpret paint specifications, coating systems, and engineering drawings.
• Mix paints and coatings per manufacturer specifications and maintain correct viscosity.
• Operate and maintain spray painting equipment and perform routine cleaning and fault checks.
• Monitor coating thickness and finish quality to ensure specifications are met.
• Identify and rectify coating defects and ensure safe handling of hazardous materials.

SHIFT PATTERN

• Shift pattern working Monday to Friday
• 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Thursday, 7:00am to 1:00pm on a Friday
• Working as part of an experienced production team

THE BUSINESS

The company operates within a busy industrial manufacturing environment, producing high-quality fabricated products that require durable and professional protective coatings. With a strong focus on quality, safety, and production standards, the business ensures that all products are prepared, coated, and finished to meet customer specifications and industry requirements.

THE ROLE

You will be working as an Industrial Paint Prepper / Sprayer as part of the production team, working alongside an experienced painter. Some of your tasks will include:

• Preparing goods for painting through grinding, sanding, chipping, cleaning, and other surface preparation methods
• Applying protective coatings, including primers, epoxies, intumescent coatings, and top coats using air-assisted airless spray equipment
• Reading and interpreting paint specifications, coating systems, and engineering/job drawings
• Mixing paints and coatings in line with manufacturer specifications, ensuring correct ratios and viscosity
• Operating and maintaining spray painting equipment, including routine cleaning and basic fault checks
• Monitoring coating thickness and overall finish quality to ensure compliance with specifications
• Identifying and rectifying coating defects such as runs, dry spray, pinholing, and poor adhesion
• Following health, safety, and environmental regulations, including the safe handling and storage of hazardous materials
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area, including paint booths and storage facilities
• Working closely with managers, supervisors, welders/fabricators, and fitters to meet production targets and deadlines
• Completing all required documentation, including paint records, inspection reports, and quality control forms

THE PERSON

The business is looking for someone with proven experience in industrial paint preparation and spray painting. However, if you have the following skills and experience it would help your application:

• Experience applying protective coatings to steel fabrications, tanks, or similar industrial products
• Competence in the use of air-assisted airless spray equipment
• Knowledge of surface preparation techniques and coating application processes
• Ability to read and interpret paint specifications and technical drawings
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on achieving high-quality finishes
• Understanding of health and safety requirements relating to industrial painting and hazardous substances
• Reliability, good teamwork, and the ability to work effectively alongside colleagues
• A proactive approach to helping meet production targets and deadlines

THE PACKAGE

• £14.50 per hour
• Shift pattern working Monday to Friday
