Job summary

Newark and Sherwood District Council is seeking a motivated Electrician to join the Housing Repairs and Empty Homes Team. You will perform electrical inspections, testing, certification and remedial works in occupied and empty properties, ensuring safety and compliance.

Applicants should have NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, AM2, 18th Edition BS 7671 and City & Guilds 2391-52 with experience in EICRs. Full UK driving licence and standby rota participation required.

Qualifications

  • AM2 Competence Assessment.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • City & Guilds 2391-52 (or equivalent) in Inspection, Testing and Certification.
  • Experience carrying out EICRs, fault finding and diagnostic testing in domestic properties.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to participate in emergency standby and call-out rota.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver electrical inspections, testing and certification across occupied and empty properties.
  • Carry out remedial electrical works and ensure compliance with BS 7671.
  • Support electrical safety and statutory compliance obligations.
  • Contribute to void turnaround and repairs performance targets.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with residents.

Job description

Salary £30,953 to £32,746 per annum, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Newark and Sherwood District Council are looking for a motivated, reliable and customer-focused Electrician to join our Housing Repairs and Empty Homes Team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Council's electrical safety and statutory compliance obligations through the delivery of electrical inspections, testing, certification and remedial works. Working in accordance with current legislation and BS 7671 requirements, you will undertake work across both occupied and empty properties, supporting the Council's electrical safety and compliance obligations while helping to maintain homes to a high standard. You will also contribute to the delivery of excellent customer service and support the achievement of the Council's void turnaround and repairs performance targets.

We are seeking somebody who takes pride in delivering high-quality results, works safely and efficiently, and is committed to providing excellent customer service. You will be able to work independently, manage your workload effectively, adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues and other trades to achieve the best outcomes for our residents.

The successful candidate will have experience in electrical installation, maintenance, inspection and testing, ideally within a social housing, local authority or domestic property maintenance environment. They will have experience working within occupied homes and with tenants as customer service and communication is a vital part of the role. They will also be proficient in the use of mobile working technology and repairs management systems to support the efficient delivery of responsive repairs and maintenance services.

The successful candidate must also have:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
  • AM2 Competence Assessment
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • City & Guilds 2391-52 (or equivalent) in Inspection, Testing and Certification
  • Experience carrying out Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs), fault finding and diagnostic testing within domestic properties
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Willingness to participate in the emergency standby and call-out rota
