Job summary

ILA Self Directed Support Forth Valley is seeking a Personal Assistant/ Care Worker to support a teenage boy after school and during school holidays. The role is based mainly at the family home with some outdoor activities.

The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, reliable, and able to follow established routines, with experience or willingness to learn signing or visual communication methods such as Makaton.

Qualifications

• Experience of supporting autistic individuals would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of Makaton and/or visual communication tools would also be helpful.

Responsibilities

• Prompting and supporting personal care and hygiene routines after school and in the morning.
• Providing support in the kitchen with simple foods or snacks.
• Assisting communication using signing, visual aids, and a communication iPad.
• Supporting the teenager in interactive play and social activities (puzzles, games, Lego, trampoline).
• Supporting health and wellbeing through walks and outdoor activities.

Skills and Experience

• Experience of supporting autistic individuals would be beneficial.

• The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, reliable, and able to follow established routines.

Tasks

• Prompting and supporting personal care and hygiene routines, such as hand washing, dressing, toileting, after school and morning routines.
• Providing support in the kitchen e.g. choosing and preparing simple foods or snacks.
• Supporting communication using signing, visual aids, and a communication iPad.
• Assisting the supported person in engaging in interactive play and social activities, such as puzzles, games, Lego, and trampoline activities.
• Supporting health and wellbeing through walks and outdoor activities.
