Job summary

The Felix Project is seeking a Driver/Depot Assistant for the Southern Central team based near Totton. You will support warehouse operations, drive a van, and help organise daily food deliveries and collections to ensure safe, on-time distribution of surplus food to partners and communities.

This permanent, 35-hour-a-week role requires a clean UK driving licence, the right to work in the UK, and a proactive, team‑oriented approach.

Qualifications

• Must have the right to work in the UK and a valid driving license.
• Experience driving vans / medium sized vehicles and multi-drop deliveries.
• Experience in a food distribution and/or warehousing operation is a plus.
• Experience using Sat Nav to navigate and plan routes.
• Ability to work on own initiative and manage workload.

Responsibilities

• Get to know your team and respond to questions about Felix’s mission and partners.
• Work with Warehouse Manager and volunteers to plan and supervise shifts.
• Ensure compliance with Felix policies and industry standards by staff and volunteers.
• Assist in organizing food distribution using Felix systems and training volunteers.
• Maintain good relations with volunteers, staff, suppliers and charities.
• Load the van and check roadworthiness; understand planned routes.
• Drive safely, courteously and within the law.
• Complete paperwork and checks to ensure food safety.

Job Title: Driver/Depot Assistant-Southern Central

Reporting to: Regional Manager

Salary Range: £24,479

Contract Type: Permanent

Location:Felix Southern Central Sunset Business Park, Totton Southampton.

Hours/Days per week: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Any 7 hours between 8am and 4pm.

Purpose of the Job

This role is about more than just driving and supporting warehouse operations, it is about sharing Felix Southern Central’s mission that” no good food should go to waste”.

Like the supply of surplus food toFelixno two shifts are the same. Every day new food arrives, and your team will include new

people who want to get involved in theFelixmission. You will be part of a small staff team responsible for ensuring the safe and

effective distribution of food each day.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Get to know your team and respond to questions aboutFelix’smission, the food partners who support us, charities who receive food and the planned activities for the day
• Work as a team with the Warehouse Manager, warehousecolleaguesand volunteers to ensure all shifts are well planned, supervised and meet daily operationalneeds
• Ensure compliance with allFelixpolicies and procedures and industry standards as required by food partners and regulators and that all staff, volunteers, food suppliers,charitiesand visitors adhere to them
• Support the Warehouse Manager in managing the office, responding toemailsand taking phone calls
• Support the Warehouse Manager in organising food distribution using theFelixfood management systems and training volunteers asrequired
• Maintain excellent relations and communications with volunteers, staff, foodsuppliersand charities
• Load the van and check the van for roadworthiness
• Understand the schedule and route that has been planned and calculated for you
• Have a smart clean appearance, ready to meet our food partners and charities
• Support warehouse staff with any other dutiesrequired
• Drive safely, responsibly and within the law
• Be courteous to all road users

• Greet the food partner or charity with a smile and get to know them by name

• Report any incidents that may affect the vans roadworthiness
