Job summary

Bradford MDC is seeking a reliable personal assistant to support a partially sighted man in his 40s with daily family life at home and in the community. The role focuses on practical tasks, outings with a baby, safe travel and social activities. Full guidance is provided; no VI experience is required.

Expect up to 10 hours per week at £12.71 per hour. You’ll need a calm, patient manner, reliability, and comfort around children and dogs. DBS check is required.

Responsibilities

• Help with navigation and orientation in unfamiliar community settings.

• Help me access sport and fitness opportunities.
• Provide transport to appointments.
• Assist with household upkeep, e.g. cleaning, meal prep, basic DIY, gardening.
• Help with shopping.
• Read the post aloud and fill out forms when needed.
• Support to complete visual tasks on the computer.
• Accompany on trips, including occasional overnight stays.

Job description

I am a partially sighted man in my 40s, seeking a reliable, friendly personal assistant to help me manage everyday family life with a baby. The role is primarily about practical support, helping me both at home and in the community. I like playing visually impaired football, cricket and tennis, going to the gym and doing park runs.

No previous experience of supporting a visually impaired person is required, as full guidance can be provided. What matters is that you are calm, patient, trustworthy and comfortable around young children and dogs. You should be confident in navigating public spaces, communicating clearly, and following instructions. The applicant must be practical, reliable, trustworthy and open-minded with strong verbal communication skills.

Summary of duties:

• Help with navigation and orientation in unfamiliar community settings
• Helping me to go out for walks with my child, including pushing the pram where needed
• Supporting safe travel with a car seat
• Supporting me and my child to safely socialize and access play/green spaces
• Helping me to access sport and fitness opportunities
• Transport to appointments
• Assisting with household upkeep, e.g. cleaning, food preparation and planning, basic DIY, gardening
• Helping with shopping
• Reading the post and other printed documents aloud, filling out forms on my behalf when needed
• Support to complete visual tasks on the computer
• Accompanying on trips when necessary (which may include occasional overnight stays)
