Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is recruiting to support HM Courts and Tribunals Service in Bradford/Leeds, focusing on monitoring and progressing criminal cases from first appearance to disposal to ensure trials proceed without delay.

You will work with colleagues to reduce ineffective trials, meet national targets for courtroom utilisation, and apply Lean TIBs and SOPs as part of continuous improvement. Some travel to other sites may be required.

HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales along with non-devolved tribunals in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The key purpose of the role is to

• Be responsible for the monitoring and progression of all criminal cases identified for case management from first appearance to disposal, ensuring that Trials proceed to completion without delay.
• Work with others to achieve a reduction in ineffective and cracked trials both nationally and locally to meet national targets. The Case Progression Officer will also monitor effective trial rates to ensure that Court Room utilisation targets are met and improved.
• Demonstrate use of Lean TIBs, SOPs and other continuous improvement tools.

New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum.

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public.

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. • Leeds Combined Court Centre, 1 Oxford Row, Leeds, LS1 3BG

Occasional travel to other sites in Leeds, Bradford and York will be required for cover when needed.

Base Location and Reserve list information

Base locations and reserve lists for this campaign will be managed in accordance with location preference/s, as indicated in your application. We will appoint in merit list order for each location outlined in the vacancy and hold a separate locational reserve list for each of these locations. After appointments have been made using this locational appointment process, any remaining candidates who met the benchmark for the role will remain on a locational reserve list in accordance with their preferences for 12 months.

If you are subsequently offered a role from the reserve list for a location preference indicated in your application and decline it, you will be removed from the reserve list for the vacancy, across all locational preferences.

Interviews

Interviews for both Bradford and Leeds posts will be conducted in Person at Leeds Crown (expected around the start of November 2026). Candidates are expected to attend. Requests for virtual interviews and alternate dates will only be considered in exceptional circumstances or as part of a reasonable adjustment.

From 22 July 2025, the Government increased the salary threshold and skills level for Skilled Worker visas. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship in accordance with the current immigration rules if you looking to apply for a Skilled Worker Visa for the first time.
